Weesify

Location data for analytics

How Weesify places visits in a country, region and city, and how the server owner keeps the location database up to date.

2 min read · Updated 30 October 2026

Analytics shows where your visitors are by country, region and city. Weesify works this out on its own server with a location database. Visitor addresses are used only for the lookup and are never stored.

What you see

  • Countries, regions and cities in Insights › Analytics and on each link's analytics.
  • A location is approximate (to about 11 km). No street address is ever stored.
  • Visits that can't be placed show as Unknown.

How a visit is placed

Weesify tries these in order:

  1. City database on the server (the most accurate).
  2. Cloudflare edge, when the site is behind Cloudflare (country only).
  3. Browser time zone, as a rough guess when nothing else is known.

For the server owner: install the location database

  1. Sign in to the Console and open Console › Analytics › Location data.
  2. Under Settings › Source, choose a source:
    • DB-IP IP to City Lite: free, with no account or key. Updated monthly. Weesify adds the credit line DB-IP asks for.
    • MaxMind GeoLite2 City: free with a MaxMind account. Enter your account ID and licence key. The key is stored encrypted.
  3. Choose Download location data. The file is checked before it replaces the current one, so a bad download never breaks anything.
  4. Leave Keep it up to date on. The scheduler downloads a new file every 28 days.

Tips

  • How well visits are placed shows how many recent visits have a known country and city.
  • Fill recent visits places the last 30 days' unknown visits from the same visitor's placed visit that day.
  • If something goes wrong after an update, choose Use the previous file.
