Cut video by editing words

Transcribe your footage, then delete words in the transcript to cut them from the video.

2 min read · Updated 30 October 2026

Once your footage is transcribed, the transcript is a way to edit. Remove a word or sentence and it is cut from the video.

Steps

  1. Open your project and go to the Media tool.
  2. Choose Transcribe. The status moves from Transcript queued to Transcribing… to Transcript ready.
  3. Open the Transcript (on a phone, the Words quick tool).
  4. Select the words you do not want and delete them. They are cut from the video.
  5. Use Search the transcript to jump to a phrase.
  6. To fix a spelling in the captions, double-click the word and choose Correct.
  7. Press Play to check the cut. Undo walks back through your changes.

Tips

  • Use Split at the playhead to cut a clip in two before deleting.
  • The transcript follows your edits. Captions and clip suggestions use it as it plays after your edits.
  • Choose Transcribe again if you added more footage.

Troubleshooting

  • "No speech-to-text provider": transcription is not switched on. Ask an admin. See Run AI on your own server.
  • "Transcript failed": choose Try again. Clear speech with little background noise works best.
